Music League gives every player a way to flag a chat message or a comment that breaks the rules. Reports go to the league administrator — not to Music League support — because the administrator is the person who can act on them in the context of their league.
What can I report?
You can report:
- Chat messages in a league's chat
- Comments on a song submission (including replies)
You cannot report:
- Your own messages or comments — you can edit or delete those instead
- Bot messages (automated round announcements, summaries, etc.)
- Content that has already been hidden or removed by an administrator
- The same message twice — once you've reported something, the report stays in the queue until the administrator acts on it
How do I report something?
- Hover over (or tap, on mobile) the chat message or comment you want to report.
- Tap the flag icon on a chat message, or the Report link below a comment.
- A dialog opens asking why you're reporting it.
- Pick a reason from the list:
- Spam — repetitive, promotional, or off-topic posts
- Harassment — targeted at a specific member
- Hate speech — attacks on a group based on identity
- Sexual content — explicit material
- Violence — threats, glorification of violence
- Self-harm — content about suicide or self-injury that may need urgent intervention
- Other — anything else (a short note is required so the administrator understands the issue)
- Add an optional note in Anything else? (required if you picked "Other"). The note is visible to the administrator when they review the report.
- Tap Submit report.
What happens right after I submit a report?
- A toast at the top of the page confirms: "Thanks for the report. It has been sent to the league administrators."
- The reported message or comment is replaced — for you only — with a placeholder reading "You reported this message. It has been sent to the league administrators." (or "this comment").
- Everyone else in the league still sees the original content until an administrator takes action. We deliberately don't hide reported content for other people, because one report is not the same thing as a verdict.
You can keep chatting and using the league as normal. The placeholder is just a visual reminder to you that the report is in flight.
Who reviews my report?
The league administrator (or any administrator, if the league has more than one). Reports are not reviewed by Music League staff. The administrator is the person who set up the league, knows the group, and can make a judgment call about what's appropriate in context.
When you submit a report, every administrator on the league gets a notification (bell + email digest) so they know there's something to review.
What can the administrator do with my report?
Three things:
- Hide the message or comment. It's replaced with a placeholder ("This message was hidden by a league administrator.") for everyone in the league. The author of the original content is notified that their post was hidden.
- Delete the message or comment. It disappears for everyone — no placeholder, no trace. The author is notified.
- Dismiss the report. The administrator reviewed your report and decided no action was needed. The original message or comment stays up, untouched.
In every case, you'll be notified that your report was either actioned (hidden / deleted) or dismissed, so you're not left wondering.
Can I take back a report?
No. Once a report is submitted, it's in the administrator's queue and can only be resolved by them (hide, delete, or dismiss). If you reported something by accident, send the administrator a chat message asking them to dismiss it.
What if more than one person reports the same message?
The administrator sees a single row in their queue listing every person who reported the message and each person's reason. If the administrator hides or deletes the message, everyone who reported it gets the "actioned" notification at once. If the administrator dismisses one report, only that one report is dismissed — other people's reports on the same message stay in the queue, because a different reporter's reason might still be valid.
Will the person I reported know it was me?
No. The administrator can see who reported what, but the author of the reported message is not told who reported them. They only see that their content was hidden or removed by an administrator.
What if the administrator is the one being abusive?
This is a known gap. The current report flow goes to the league administrator, so reports about the administrator's own behavior are not useful. If you're being mistreated by a league administrator, email us at support@musicleague.com.
