What is a round theme?
Every round in Music League has a theme — a prompt or constraint that everyone submits a song for. For example, the theme might be "Cover Songs," "Songs About Summer," or "One-Hit Wonders." The theme is the heart of each round: it sparks creativity, creates a shared challenge, and makes the voting interesting.
How do I pick themes when creating a league?
In Step 2 of the league creation wizard (Rounds & Themes), you first choose how many rounds you want to play. After that, you give each round a title and description — those two fields together are the theme.
For each round you have two easy ways to fill those fields:
- Pick from the Theme Library — Tap "Browse themes" on a round to open a modal with a curated collection of prompts. Scroll through the list, tap any theme, and its title and description fill in automatically.
- Write your own — Skip the library and just type the title and description for that round. Custom themes only exist in your league — they don't show up in the shared library for anyone else.
Can I use the same theme more than once?
Yes — you can give two rounds the same title and description if you want to. Most leagues find it more fun to pick something different for each round so every submission window feels fresh, but there's no rule against repeating.
Can I change a theme after the league has launched?
You can edit the title and description for upcoming rounds at any time from the league settings. We recommend not changing a round's theme once it's open for submissions — players who have already submitted picked their song for the original prompt.
Do I have to set the themes upfront?
Setting a title for every round before you launch is the best way to play — players can see what's coming across the whole league, which adds to the anticipation.
